Abstract
638,321. Electrolytic polishing of aluminium. SOC. ANON. POUR LA PROTECTION ET LA COLORATION DES METAUX., TREFILERIES ET LAMINOIRS DU HAVRE., and HERENGUEL, J. F. G. Oct. 27, 1947, No. 28689. Convention date, Feb. 15. [Class 41] A process for the electrolytic polishing of articles of aluminium and alloys thereof consists in anodically treating the articles in a concentrated solution of sulphuric and phosphoric acids the volume of the sulphuric acid being between 50 and 80 per cent and the volume of phosphoric acid being between 25 and 5 per cent, the temperature of the polishing bath being between 75‹ and 100‹ C., and the current density being between 8 and 25 amps per square decimetre. The bath may have relative motion with respect to the anodes. A film formed during polishing may be removed by pickling, and the articles may then be subjected to anodic oxidation under conditions specified in the process described in Specification 28691/47 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91). French Specification 798,721 is referred to.
