Abstract
Diacetylenic diamines of the formula RR1N.CHR11.CC.C.C.CHR11.NRR1 where R represents a hydrocarbon radical and R1 represents a hydrocarbon radical or hydrogen, or R and R1 may form part of a heterocyclic ring, and where R11 may represent hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical are prepared by oxidising a compound of the formula RR1N.CHR11.CCH in a liquid medium in the presence of a copper salt. The oxidation is preferably effected by air or oxygen but potassium ferricyanide, for example, may also be used. In examples: (1) and (2) 2-diethylaminobut-3-yne in aqueous solution in the presence of ammonium chloride, cuprous chloride and hydrochloric acid is oxidised by air to 2 : 7-bisdiethylaminoocta-3 : 5-diyne; (3) 2-isopropylaminobut-3-yne is oxidised as in (1) to 2 : 7-diisopropylaminoocta-3 : 5-diyne monohydrate; (4) 2-n-butylaminobut-3-yne is oxidised as in (1) to 2 : 7-di-n-butylaminoocta-3 : 5-diyne; (5) 2-morpholinobut-3-yne is oxidised to 2:7-dimorpholinoocta-3 : 5-diyne.
