Abstract
In a process for pickling metal objects, an inhibitor is used comprising the reaction product of an aldehyde with urea and/or thiourea. The inhibitor may be added to any of the usual acids-sulphuric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric-pickling baths in an amount exceeding 0.001 per cent and up to saturation concentration, together with, if desired, a wetting agent, e.g., of the aryl alkyl polyether alcohol type, and also other inhibitors such as diphenylurea, glue, or sodium chloride. The inhibitor is produced by reacting the aldehyde, preferably formaldehyde, with a mixture of urea and thiourea in an acid medium.
