Abstract
624,368. Dobbies. STAUBLI, R., STAUBLI, H., and STAUBLI, O., (trading as STAUBLI & CO., GEB.). July 16, 1946, No. 21287. Convention date, July 16, 1945. [Class 142 (i)] In a dobby which can be reversed for unweaving, the sheds for the last two picks are read from a paper pattern 2 by reading needles 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP>, and the sheds for the next two picks are simultaneously read by needles 5, 6 ; but only those draw hooks 32 fall into the path of the lifting knife 33 which have to open the next shed if the dobby is running forwards, or which have to open the preceding shed if the dobby is being turned backwards, the draw hooks associated with the other lifting knife (not shown) remaining still, even though the sheds to be formed by them have been read from the pattern. Each draw hook 32 is moved into or out of the path of the lifting knife 33 by a rising rail 9 acting through a lifting needle 15 which has a flexible joint 15c so that it can be swung clear of the rising rail. The lifting needle is embraced by two push needles 18, 19 from which hang the reading needles 5, 6. The other set of draw hooks (not shown), actuated by another lifting knife, is similarly controlled by a rising rail 10, lifting needles 16, push needles 18<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>1</SP> (alternating with the needles 18, 19) and the reading needles 5<SP>1</SP>, 61. All the reading needles are lifted by bars 25 to clear the pattern 2 as it is advanced ; when the bars 25 allow the reading needles to fall, the needles which encounter blanks in the pattern hold up their push needles so that cranked parts 18a are clear of driving bars 7, 8. The driving bar 7 operates the push needles 18, 181 when the dobby is running normally ; the driving bar 8 operates the needles 19, 191 when the dobby is turned backwards. In order that the driving bar 7 shall affect only the lifting needles 15 or 16 operated by the rail 9 or 10 which is to rise next, its shoulder 7a which engages the push needles 18, 181 is notched as shown in Fig. 4, and in addition to operative strokes imparted to it by a cam 21 through a follower 22, the bar 7 is shogged after each stroke by the side of the cam 21 acting through a follower 22a. During reverse running, the driving bar 8 is operated in the same way by a cam 20, the bar 7 then being stopped. Specification 271,825, [Class 142 (i)], is referred to.
