[Class 74 (ii)] The knitting elements of a warp knitting-machine comprise a set of straight-backed hook needles 10 and a co-operating set of tongues 11, each set being reciprocated by eccentric and strap mechanism 16 ... 19. The straight stem of each needle is channelled to provide a guideway for the co-operating tongue. Arms 15, pivoted on a shaft14 and jointed to nearly vertical eccentric rods 16, are fixed at intervals to the needle bar 12 and tongue bar 13. In a modification, the needles tongues and rods 16 are horizontal. Balance weights may be used to counteract forces set up by the rotating, and, in some cases, also the reciprocating inasses. The needle and tongue bars may be constrained to rectilinear movement by mounting them in guides or on parallel links.
