735,383. Knitting. SWISS KNITTING CO. April 23, 1953, No. 11195/53. Class 74 (2). A girdle knitted on a cylinder-and-dial machine has shorter loops knitted in front than those knitted at the rear, thereby ensuring that the garment conforms more readily to the figure of the wearer. The loop structure may vary continuously in length from front to rear or the fabric may comprise a portion at the front extending over a number of wales the loops of which are of equal predetermined length and a similar portion at the rear but with loops of longer length, the two portions being connected by fabric in which the loop structure varies from one to the other. The machine for knitting the girdle comprises a movable cylinder stitch cam 30 operated by an arm 54 influenced by a cam follower 40 riding on a cam-way 38 so as to move the stitch cam down and allow it to be raised by a spring 67 as the cam box of the machine rotates.
