[Class 136 (iii)] In bicycles or other light vehicles, particularly those fitted with an auxiliary engine and having an open frame main tube 1, Fig. 1, which connects the steering head tube 21 with the saddle tube and to which are connected by electric spot welding sheet metal elements 2 carrying the crank hanger, the rear end 12 of the tube is partly flattened and then rounded between the flattened portions to form a housing for a saddle tube 13, Fig. 2, of a diameter smaller than that of said main tube. Bolts 16 passed through the flattened portion 15a secure the tube 13 in position. A filling piece 17.is inserted in the flattened portion 15b and retained by a bolt 18. The struts 10 of the rear fork are stampings of U-shaped section and are secured to the part 15b by a bolt 19 carrying distance pieces 19a. The crank hanger tube 4 is secured to the support 2 by electric welding or by bolts 5. In the latter case a spring 6 is placed between the nut on each bolt and the support: Members 7, which are preferably pressings of U-shaped cross-section connect the tube 4 to the rear wheel spindle. The front ends of these members are welded to plates 8, 9'which are themselves welded to tube 4. The rear ends of the members 7 and the bottom ends of the struts 10 are flattened and provided with registering notches 11 for the rear wheel hub spindle. The steering head tube 21 is housed and welded between two half shells 22 of stamped sheet metal which are welded to the front end of the tube 1. Specification 600,769 is referred to.
