Abstract

646,017. Spring forks for motor-cycles. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G., and MOULTON, A. E. Jan. 2, 1947, No. 123. [Class 136 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] The rear wheel of a motor-cycle or of a three-wheeled vehicle is sprung, and also located, by a rubber torsion spring 11 which extends the whole width of the wheel supporting link ; the outer sleeve 21a, 21b, or inner bush 10 of the spring is rigidly fixed to the vehicle, while the other bush or sleeve is secured to the substantially horizontal forks 1 which, rigidly connected together for movement in unison, make up the wheel-supporting link. The wheel yoke 4, which may be made of one piece of tube, is connected by two bridge plates 6 to plugs 9 secured in the inner bush 10 of the rubber torsion spring. A rubber sleeve 11 is bonded to the tube 10 and to a split outer tube 21a, 21b, the flanges 22a, 22b, of which are bolted together. The half-tube 21a has radial flanges 23 by which it is secured to the vehicle frame, arcuate slots 26 in these flanges allowing angular adjustment of the spring. The wheel yoke has an upwardly bent part 5 carrying a fitting 32 which engages a resilient stop 30 on the vehicle frame. The rubber spring is secured to the frame near the driving pinion 15 to reduce changes in chain tension. A split tube may, as described in Specification 646,073, [Group XXXII], be interposed between the rubber sleeve 11 and the outer tube 21a, 21b.
