Abstract

645,665. Spring forks for motor-cycles. COLEMAN, G. P., and IRELAND, A. E. Oct. 13, 1948, No. 26619. [Class 136 (iii)] A spring fork for the front steering wheel of a motor cycle or like wheels comprises rods 1 which are connected at the bottom end to the wheel axle of a road wheel and at the top end to a link 2 pivotally connected to the steering head 3 or frame, and sleeves 4 pivotally mounted on the frame, the rods being slidably mounted intermediate their ends in the sleeves, movement of the rods in the sleeves being under the control of shock absorbing and recoil springs 8, 10 in the sleeve. A collar 7 is fixed on each rod 1 and slides in the sleeve 4. The shock absorbing spring 8 is mounted between a shoulder 9 and the collar 7 and the recoil spring 10 between a shoulder 11 1 and the collar 7. The arms of the link 2 may either be elbow-shaped at one end 2a or at both ends.
