Abstract

657,835. Perambulator and like suspensions. SELLATI, M. Feb. 28, 1949, No. 5414. [Class 108(ii)] In a perambulator with the usual parallel springs to which the rear axle is fixed, the front axle is carried by a pair of drop arms pivoted to the springs to allow the front wheels to drop, e.g. at a curb, and a cushioning device is provided to cause the axle to return to its normal position slowly. As shown, the rear axle 16 is fixed to the springs 13, 14, but the front axle is carried by a pair of arms 28 pivoted to the springs at 29 and guided in their downward movement by frames 33 secured to the springs. A pneumatic cylinder 21 is pivotally carried by the bracket 18 and its piston rod 25 is pivoted to the front axle, valves being arranged on the cylinder to permit the front axle to drop quickly at a curb, and as the pram is moved forward and the whole weight is taken by the front wheels, cushions the return movement of the axle. A hand-released latch is provided to retain the front axle in its normal raised position.
