Abstract
593,384. Collapsable road vehicles. DUKE, S. May 30, 1945, No. 13523. [Class 108 (i)] In a folding wheel chair, the wheels are carried by a frame comprising horizontal tubes 16 and front and rear uprights 17, 18 secured thereto, the seat-carrying frame comprising horizontal tubes 22 to which front and rear vertical tubes 23, 24 are welded, the tubes 23, 24 being slidable within the tubes 17, 18 to rest on buffer springs 25. Pivoted diagonal struts 45, 46, 45a, 46a space the frame sides in open position, or allow the chair, to be folded for transport &c. The uprights 17, 18 are secured to sleeves 65, 69 on the tubes 16 to which they are secured by bolts 66, 70. Between .the sleeves 65, 69 on the tubes 16 are revoluble sleeves 47, 50 to which the lower ends of the diagonal struts are secured, the sleeves 47, 50 being spaced by a sleeve 16. The tops of the diagonal struts are similarly secured to sleeves revoluble on the tubes 22, the revoluble telescopic mounting permitting the folding of the frame. The back and arm rest 15 comprises tubes 31, 32, 37, the uprights 32, 37 having ends 33, 38 of reduced diameter which are clamped in the tubes 17, 18 by screws 41, 41a. The axle lugs 21 are mounted on the tube 18 and the footrest brackets 63 are secured to the uprights 17 and the sleeves 65, the footrests 67 being pivoted to the brackets. Small castor wheels are secured to each of the sleeves 65.
