Abstract

581,818. Invalids' chair carriages. SILL, G. A. Feb. 5, 1944, No. 2153. [Class 52 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] An invalids' chair is rigidly mounted on a tiltable carriage having front wheels and a resiliently mounted back wheel, and a foot rest is rigidly connected to the carriage for normal contact with the floor but is raised from the floor when the invalid sits in the chair. The back is adjustable and the arms are hinged to swing down to allow the invalid to slide sideways from the chair on to a bed. The two front driving wheels 20, Fig. 2, are mounted on an axle 25 to which is fixed a footrest 18 and bracket 24 adapted to carry the support 30 of a resiliently mounted back wheel 34 and the chair support 22. A seat bottom 10 is rigidly mounted on the support 22 and the seat back 40 is hinged at 42 to the seat and can be adjusted for inclination by a screwed rod 50. The arm rests 16, Figs. 4, 5, are connected to the seat by a slot 56 and bolt 58 and are clamped in position by a screw 62, the clamp being released and the arm drawn upwards until the bolt 58 reaches the end of the slot before turning the arm clockwise into the down position shown in dotted line in Fig. 4.
