Abstract

589,482. Collapsable vehicles. LAMMIMAN, A. F., and REUBEN, S. March 28, 1945, No. 7874. [Class 108 (i)] In a folding baby-carriage, the wheels are mounted on C-springs which are pivoted to permit the wheels to be swung to lie under the seat. The back rest and handle are in two hinged parts and arm rests are provided, the whole structure being maintained in extended form by break-hinge links. As shown, the seat frame comprises two tubular sides 1 connected at the front and rear by transverse strips and carrying brackets 3 to which transverse rods 4 are attached. The fabric 5, 5a is carried by the rods 4 and by a rod 13 forming a hinge between parts 11, 12 of the handle, which parts are locked in operative position by spring-pressed pins 14 engaging holes in the part 11. The arm rests 15 are pivoted to the front brackets 3 and to the handle parts 11, links 16 maintaining them and the handle in operative position. The wheels 8 are journalled on stub axles secured to C-springs 6 associated one with each tube 1. The springs have a rod, or rods, secured, e.g., by welding, to the ends of the springs, the rods extending into or through the tubes 1. A hinge is thus provided which permits the springs, and wheels thereon, to be swung inwardly and upwardly against the underside of the seat, or to be retained in the vertical operative position by links 9. A spring clip grips the.links 9 in the folded position and holds them. In the collapsed position, the pins 14 engage under lugs 20 on the part 11 to prevent the structure from being accidentally opened when the carriage is picked up by the handle. A foot rest 17 is provided, which, in the collapsed position, is swung over to lie on the seat.
