Abstract

532,921. Motor - driven invalid carriages. GRAIN, F. H. Sept. 26, 1939, No. 26678. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] In a three-wheeled invalid carriage the seat v and footwell e are fixed to the spring-supported chassis frame a, b and the engine n is mounted directly on the rear axle. In the construction shown the frame its constructed of angle-iron bars, and the rear axle comprises half-axle tubes k, k<SP>1</SP> to which are fixed discs l, l<SP>1</SP> connected together by tie-rods m, the engine being secured to the discs l, l<SP>1</SP>. The rear axle is connected to the frame by springs s and by torque rods p which absorb the engine torque, these rods having rubber bushes r at their pivotal connections to the frame and the discs l, l<SP>1</SP>. The frame comprises two horizontal longitudinals a, b bent upwardly at f at the front and at h at the rear, their rear ends i being horizontal. The main bars a, b are connected together by cross members c, d, y, and the seat is supported by upper longitudinals connected together by cross members w, o and connected to the main frame by uprights x.
