694,791. Motor-vehicle frames. FIAT SOC. PER AZIONI. June 28, 1950 [June 30, 1949], No. 16198/50. Class 79(iv) A vehicle frame comprises channel-shaped side members, secured to a metal floor, which at their central portions are approximately in line with the wheels and which converge at each end, cross members being provided one of which is arranged level with the lower edge of the dashboard and is connected at its ends with the side members by means of inclined members which merge into the side members. As shown, the inverted channel side members 2 are secured to the metal floor 1 provided with a propeller shaft tunnel 3. A U-shaped frame cross member 9, 7 is arranged inclined rearwardly with its centre horizontal portion 7 at the lower edge of the dash board. Each side portion 9 thereof is secured to the corresponding longitudinal 2 by inner and outer triangular plates. At the front an arcuate cross-member 6 of closed inverted channel section is secured to the underside of the longitudinals 2. The engine sump 11 is recessed at 10 to receive the cross member 6, and also at the front 10<SP>1</SP> to receive the steering linkage. The front wheels are independently suspended by upper .and lower links 14, 15 articulated to the longitudinals and the cross member 6 respectively, a stabiliser bar 17 being provided. The rear axle is carried by radius rods 20 and is sprung by two helical springs 21 and stabiliser bars 23. Specification 679,772, [Group XXXII], is referred to.
