Abstract
721,327. Motor vehicles. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. July 28, 1952 [July 26, 1951], No. 19078/52. Classes 79(2), 79(3) and 79(4). [Also in Group XXXII] In a motor vehicle with axle assemblies supported on the vehicle chassis frame or superstructure and each comprising at least a wheel axle with wheels and axle suspension, one or both of the assemblies being supported on the middle part of the vehicle in cantilever fashion and projecting under the same with an end portion, at least one of such axle assemblies projects with a tubular extension under the middle part and is supported at its end portion on the middle part by means of a supporting element. In the arrangement according to Fig. 1 in which a vehicle comprises two sections 1 and 7, a front wheel axle assembly 2 is connected to the section 1 by means of a tubular extension 3 to a supporting element 4 at substantially the midpoint of the section 1, and also by means of a bearer 5 engaging supports 6 on the section 1. In another arrangement, Fig. 2, a frame 10 carrying the front axle assembly, and a resiliently mounted engine 11, is carried by supports 4 and 6 on a frame structure 9. A rear axle assembly 13, which may include a torsion bar suspension system is supported on the frame 9 by similar supports 4 and 6. In a further arrangement Fig. 3 (not shown) the extensions 3 of the front and rear axle assemblies are carried by a common support beneath a central section of the vehicle. In another arrangement Fig. 4, (not shown), in which the vehicle is formed of three sections, the outer supports, for the front and rear axle assemblies are constituted by coupling elements between the end sections and the central section. In the arrangement according to Fig. 6 a front axle assembly is supported by a frame 21, articulated centrally of the vehicle in supports 22, 22, and by yieldable supports 6, 6. A rear axle assembly 13 is carried in a manner similar to that described with reference to Fig. 2.
