817,947. Mounting bodies on underframes. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. March 19, 1957 [March 19, 1956], No. 9044/57. Class 108(2) A torsionally rigid structural base part 4 fixed to a motor vehicle superstructure 1 is on the one hand pivotally mounted at its front and rear ends on cross members 15, 16 of the chassis so as to be rockable about a central longitudinal axis and on the other hand is fixedly supported on the chassis by a cross member 10 (Fig. 1) located between the points of pivotal mounting and fixed to the base part 4. As shown in Fig. 1 the chassis comprises longitudinal members 11, 12 and the base 4 comprises transverse members 5, 6 and a torsion tube 9 held by supporting members 7, 8 which are pivotally supported by bolts 13, 14 passing through the cross members 15, 16 of the chassis. This mounting of the base part 4 prevents distortion of door openings such as 2, 3 by torsional stresses in the chassis. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the torsion tube 9 is dispensed with, and the base part 4 includes longitudinal and transverse channel-shaped members. In a further modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the base part 4 is stiffened by a tubular container disposed horizontally within the body and longitudinally thereof. Fig. 6 shows a further modification in which a vertical container 29 is supported between cross members 32, 33 and longitudinal members 30, 31 which stiffen the base 4. As in Fig. 1 the base 4 is supported at 13, 14 on cross members 15, 16 of the chassis. The cross member 33 is fixed to the longitudinal members 11, 12 of the chassis.
