Abstract
419,336. Handle - bars. NORTON MOTORS, Ltd., and CARROLL, A., Bracebridge Street, Aston, Birmingham. Nov. 28, 1933, No. 33240. [Class 136 (iii).] In a resilient mounting for the handle-bars of motor or other cycles, the handlebars are mounted in one or more rubber or other resilient bushes or sleeves in a fitting carried by the steering-stem, and are also connected to a part of the steering-stem by means which permit movement of the bars in a substantially vertical direction but are rigid against movement in the plane in which the bars move for steering. As shown, the handle-bar a is mounted in a split lug b of which the lower half is integral with the crown c of the steering-stem and the upper half is detachably secured to the lower half by bolts d. At each end of the lug b is a cylindrical chamber in which is located a rubber bush f fitting tightly around the bar a. The direct connection between the bar a and the steering- stem consists of a thin resilient steel &c. plate secured to the front of the bar, or (as shown) folded at h around and welded &c. to the bar a, the doubled ends of the plate projecting forwardly through a slot j in the lug b in the form of two fork limbs k, which pass on either side of the upper end of the steering-stem and are detachably secured by studs l to bosses m on the bearing housing n for the link spindle of the spring fork.
