Abstract

485,454. Coupling cycles together. DUNDERDALE, T. Sept. 18, 1936, No. 25410. [Class 136 (iii)] Two or more cycles are coupled together in the following manner, so as to enable the combination to be steered from one of the cycles, to permit spring - controlled relative movement between the cycles, and to enable passengers or goods to be carried between the cycles. The steering-heads of the cycles are coupled by a tube 3, one end of which is connected through compression springs 5, mounted on two bolts, to an arm 4a projecting from a clip 4 on one head, the other end being bent at right-angles and connected by a spring 6 and bolt to a lug on a clip 13. The front fork crowns are coupled together by means of upwardly-inclined arms 8 and a tube 7, and the lower ends of the forks are connected by brackets 11, adjustable knuckles 10, and a tube 9, whereby steering may be effected from one of the handle-bars, the other handle-bar being locked to the upper frame tube and being loose relatively to the fork. The rear forks are connected together by a frame 14, Fig. 5, which is attached at the top to the seat pillar lugs by means of bolts 15 and springs 16, and at the bottom by bolts and springs 18 to a bar 17 secured to the rear-wheel spindles. A luggage-carrier or a light car may be bolted to the frame 14.
