Abstract
621,945. Brakes for trucks. ALVIS, Ltd., KEMP, A., and BRADLEY, L. March 29, 1947, No. 8567. [Class 103 (i)] A truck has, at one end, a single steerable wheel 11 fitted with a controllable brake, and at the other end a pair of wheels 12, Fig. 2, having brakes which are normally held in the "on" position by a spring 31 (through lever 29), and a pivoted push-pull handle 35 biassed (by springs 41) to a substantially upright position, this handle co-acting with two levers, '37, 38, so that whether the handle is pushed or pulled the appropriate lever is moved to release the brakes for the pair of wheels 12. The bellcranks 37, 38 are pivoted at 39 to the rod 30 so that when either bell-crank is rocked by the lug 36 on the handle 35, pivoted at 34, the rod 30 is pulled to the left against spring 31 to release the brakes. To lock these brakes "off" a hook 42, independently pivoted at 43, is placed over a pin 44 on the rod 30 after the latter has been moved left. The draw-bar 14, pivoted at 15, has a projection 18 so that when 14 drops below the towing position, the part 18 depresses a lever 16 to apply the brake to wheel 11 against spring 17.
