Abstract

621,521. Furnace grates. WADE, C. F. Nov. 2, 1946, No. 32567. [Class 51 (i)] In a modification of the furnace.grate according to Specification 325,250, the central air trunk a, Fig. 1, has parallelogram shaped openings with deflectors c formed inside the furthest edge of said openings. The side transverse bars d, Fig. 2, are recessed so that adjacent bars form tapered air spaces narrowing from below, the widest part of each space being substantially the width of a bar and the outer extremities of the bars curve sharply upwards as at e so that at least the top row of spaces discharge air across the top of the burning fuel. The centre firebars are curved upwardly on the back or down-stream side so that spaces between adjacent bars are of nozzle shaped section with one flat and one curved face. The longitudinal dampers f are pivoted at their outer ends and secondary air may be supplied above them through inlets g.
