620,237. Package opening devices. TAMARIN, B. J. Jan. 10, 1947, No. 924. [Class 94(i)] A package comprises a group of cigarettes or other rod-like articles, a wrapper 4 having flaps 10, 11, 12 and 13 overlapped to form an end closure, and a flexible pull-strip 21 looped around the overlaid flap 10 and yieldingly anchored to a cigarette 2a at 22 and to the flap 10 at 23, or at either of these points, so that when the strip 21 is pulled the flap 10 is lifted and unfolded, the flaps 12 and 13 having slits 19 and 20 for this purpose. The slits 19 and 20 are preferably adjacent to the inner edge of the flap 10 and separate sections 12<SP>1</SP> and 13<SP>1</SP> of the flaps 12 and 13 are unfolded, the flap 10 together with the sections 12<SP>1</SP> and 13<SP>1</SP> forming a spout through which a cigarette is withdrawn on continued pulling of the strip 21.. The package may be enclosed in a jacket 7 with a seal 18 attached to its opposite sides overlying the slits 19, 20 yieldingly to secure the sections 121 and 13<SP>1</SP>. The pull strip 21 is preferably attached to the 'side of a cigarette so that it is split off, by pulling it laterally, before the cigarette 2a is completely withdrawn.
