Abstract

646,958. Opening packages. HARVEY, V. P., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Jan. 12, 1948, No. 889. [Class 94(i)] The wrapper of a block-ended package is provided on its inner surface with a tear strip 6 which is so arranged that a part thereof, at or near the end which is to be pulled, lies inside a triangular foldedback portion 3 of the wrapper, which portion forms part of an outer or overlapping closure flap 4, the said part of the tear strip being itself folded over inside the folded-back portion so that it is turned out of line with the remainder of the strip. As shown, the tear strip, which may be made of coloured material, is secured to the inner surface of the wrapper and extends from the edge of a tab 2 on the flap 4 to the edge of the other flap 5, short slits 8 being provided on each side of the tab to assist the initial tearing. The flaps 4, 5 are united along their length by heatsealing over an area narrower than the overlay, as described in Specification 605,899, and in order to confine the tearing of the wrapper to the neighbourhood of the tear strip, the two flaps may be further secured together by a line of adhesive 7 adjacent the tab.
