Abstract

1,166,242. Wrapping. BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd. 29 Nov., 1966 [7 Jan., 1966], No. 962/66. Heading B8C. Cuts are made in a sheet of wrapping material in order to form a tear tab extending from a lap joint, created when the sheet wraps an article. In one embodiment, Fig. 4, a wrapper 2, having cuts x is wrapped around an article a, as shown, so that tabs 9a, 9b, are formed for tearing the wrapper along each side of lap joints 6 and 10 respectively, the tabs being lightly adhered to the sides. Other embodiments are described in which the wrapper is slit to form only one tab. Apparatus for folding the wrapper of Fig. 4 comprises a stationary tucker for forming the fold 3, vertically movable blades to form and seal lap joint 6, angled slits or ploughs to fold the end flaps, means to seal the remaining joints, and tuckers to fold and adhere the tabs along the sides.
