Abstract
619,472. Internal - grinding spindles. CHURCHILL MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., and ASBRIDGE, G. H. Dec. 12, 1946, No. 36698. [Class 60] In an internal-grinding spindle construction comprising a barrel and a spindle journalled in bearings in the barrel, the barrel portion is in two parts a, b with the joint at the radial end face c of the larger diameter portion of the barrel; the part a, which has a bearing d for the outer end of the spindle e, is threaded at f on to the exterior of the part b, cylindrical portions g, h being provided to ensure axial alignment. Ball bearings i, j for the spindle are provided at both ends of the portion b of the barrel. The spindle is in two parts e, k, the joint being at m towards the end of the larger diameter portion of the spindle; the outer part e of the spindle plugs into the end of the inner part of the spindle and there are relatively long cylindrical surfaces on the plug n and the socket into which it fits to ensure axial alignment; the plug and socket are threaded at o and there are radial faces at m on the two parts which are aligned and which are tightened by the screwed parts o.
