Abstract

639,643. Bearings. MILLICHAMP, B. W. April 16, 1948, No. 10558. [Class 12 (i)] A ball-bearing for a wheel or the like comprises a tubular sleeve B fitting within a cylindrical bore in the wheel and formed internally at one end with a cup-shaped bearing race and internally screwed at the other end to engage a race ring C, and an inner race member which may be in one piece or in two parts F, G screwed together secured to a shaft D. The tubular sleeve B and race ring C have outwardly extending annular flanges B1, C1 which engage and clamp the wheel hub A therebetween. In a modification, the outwardly-extending flange C<SP>1</SP> of the race ring C is formed as a separate locking ring screwing on to the external periphery of the race ring C. In a further modification the tubular sleeve B is threaded internally throughout its length for engagement with externally-threaded race rings C at each end, each race ring having a looking ring screwed thereon.
