Abstract

860,774. Ball-and-socket joints. HUMBER Ltd., and HUMPHRIS, F. R. April 3, 1959 [April 8, 1958], No. 11081/58. Class 65(2). In a ball-and-socket bearing for a shaft 18 which can slide axially and rotate in a diametrical throughway in the ball, the ball is divided by a plane transverse to the throughway into two parts which are urged by a spring 19 into contact with the socket 20, 21, and one or each part is further divided into two or more circumferentially separated sections 10-13 which tend to close on to the shaft under the spring force.
