Abstract

619,146. Fuel-injection pumps. BRADBURY, C. H., and RUSTON & HORNSBY, Ltd. Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23789. [Class 102 (i)] In a cam-actuated fuel injection pump of the type in which fuel is admitted to the pump chamber by the uncovering of a port or ports in the barrel by the pump plunger after a partial vacuum has been created in the pump chamber during the initial part of the suction stroke and wherein the mechanical suction stroke is constant and invariable, the pump plunger is actuated by a cam so shaped that the delivery stroke follows the suction stroke immediately or after a short dwell and between the end of the delivery stroke and the beginning of the next suction stroke, the plunger remains in a position corresponding to the end of its delivery stroke. The cam shown comprises a concentric portion 3 joined by, a straight portion 1. The portion 1 may be concave or convex. Specification 532,398 is referred to.
