Abstract

619,037. Non-contact-making relays. ELECTRO METHODS, Ltd., BUTCHER, F. E., and WILLHEIM, R. Jan. 17, 1947, No. 14984/48. Divided out of 618,957. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXV] Unbalanced saturation effects occurring in saturable reactor control arrangements are eliminated by providing a short-circuited winding or windings which enforce an equality of voltage across the A.C. windings, exclude residual A.C. voltages across the feed-back circuit, and relieve the D.C. controlling circuit of A.C. components. Fig. 1 shows the winding arrangement of two co-operating saturable reactors (cores, not shown) having opposed A.C. windings 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, feed-back windings 2, 21 (fed .through a rectifier R), and control or signal windings 3, 31 determining the current in a D.C. load L. A winding 6, 61 is applied to each reactor and both are connected in a closed circuit; these windings have substantially no mutual inductance with the A.C. windings. As an alternative, the feed-back windings can be connected in a closed circuit and the D.C. load fed from a separate rectifier, either directly in the output circuit or coupled to it by a transformer as in Fig. 2.
