Abstract

[Also in Division G1] A D.C. transformer arrangement comprises a pair of saturable cores C1, C2 through whose primary windings a D.C. current <SP>1</SP>d to be measured flows. The two secondary windings are supplied with an alternating e.m.f. via a balanced diode arrangement D1-D4 in such a way that the two e.m.f.'s at the secondary windings are out of phase with respect to each other. A component Dz is connected in series with the output load R L which may be an ammeter. Dz has the effect of providing a definite minimum voltage drop against the flow of current through the output load. Furthermore a resistor R 1 is connected to the diode arrangement in a balanced manner to the load. This resistor has a value less than the load resistance R 1 plus the minimum voltage drop of the component Dz divided by the core secondary current required to just saturate the core. The component Dz may be a diode, Zener diode or battery.
