Abstract
723,567. Magnetic amplifiers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JUDD, S. R. June 16, 1953 [April 21, 1952], No. 10004/52. Class 40 (4). In a magnetic amplifier wherein a load 19 is fed through windings 12, 13 and 14 and fullwave rectifiers 10, a control winding 15 is fed with a current which is dependent on the difference between the output voltage and a reference voltage from a source 18, and a feedback winding 20 is provided to assist the control winding when the maximum output is required. The arrangement gives a steep output voltage to control the winding ampere turns characteristic without reducing the range of control. A threelimbed core is provided for each phase and each core carries a load winding split between its outer limbs. The control winding may comprise three separate windings connected in series or a common winding for the three cores. The reference voltage is made variable through a potentiometer 17.
