Abstract

522,130. Supply motors. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and BRAENDLE, E. W. Dec. 6, 1938, No. 35630. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXV] In a shaded pole induction disc type motor, relay or measuring instrument, windings are provided on all portions of the split poles and an impedance is connected across each of the said windings, at least one of the impedances being variable. In the form shown in Fig. 2 each pole has four sub-divisions each with a winding A, B, C, D, A', B<1>, C<1> or D<1> connected to a pair of terminals by which impedance connected thereto can be selectively varied. If desired one pole only may be sub-divided and it may have two sub-divisions only. In the form shown in Fig. 5 the motor M may control a carbon pile or other regulator (not shown) for maintaining the voltage of the supply L constant the relative strengths of the shading coils AB depending on the impedance of the valve V1 which varies with fluctuations of the supply L. By connecting the resistance R1 in series with instead of across the supply L, the motor may serve to maintain the current constant. A similar arrangement may be employed to vary the gain of an amplifier.
