Abstract
350,715. Resistance measurements. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd. and ROLFE, G. B., Acton Lane Works, Chiswick, London. June 4, 1930, No. 17329. [Class 37.] In a moving-coil ohmmeter for measuring high insulation resistances, the field magnet is provided with one or more polar extensions which repel the current coil as this approaches the zero position, thereby enabling the zero mark to be included on the scale with 'a comparatively low series resistance. As shown in Fig. 1, both sides of the current coil c and one side of the pressure coil P move in the gap between the polepieces R<1>, R<2> of the permanent magnet M and the fixed core K. A horn H extends from the lower polepiece R<2> so as to form a subsidiary polepiece F in the neighbourhood reached by the current coil c as the pointer X approaches the zero position. Interaction between this polepiece and the coil C produces a back torque which reduces the deflection from the infinity position. In a modification, Fig. 2, two horns H<1>, H2 are provided, the coils C, P being spaced apart axially so that the horns co-operate with the current coil only.
