Abstract

966,511. Inductors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 2, 1960 [June 4, 1959], No. 19138/59. Heading H1T. Inductive apparatus includes a magnetic core having yokes joined by three groups of limbs; a first and second group having windings so connected in a circuit that their flux passes in opposite directions respectively between the yokes as shown by the solid arrows, and a third group which is not wound and has a total crosssectional area not less than those of either the first or second groups. Windings 27 form smoothing chokes in series with traction motors 10-13 supplied through rectifying and control equipment 14. If one or more motors cease to function the limbs carrying the chokes 27 through which no current is passing have a high reluctance because of air gaps 26, and the flux of the operating windings returns through the unwound limbs. Thus with motor 11 not in use the flux distribution is as shown by the dashed arrows. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 816,077.
