Abstract

840,412. Transformers and inductances; electric coils. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. April 15, 1958, No. 11904/58. Classes 35 and 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electrical coil unit comprises a winding or windings 4 on an insulating sleeve 3 through which are arranged two or more leads 1, 2A connected to the ends of the winding or windings, a magnetic or non-magnetic core, which may form one or both of the leads, being located within the sleeve. Where two core laminations form the leads they may have extensions with tapped holes for external connections or extensions formed as solder tags or spade terminals. A further embodiment comprises a transformer with one winding connected to two leads passing through the sleeve and the other to two core laminations which also form two leads. The sleeve may be of polyvinyl chloride and may be shrunk on to the core and leads or, alternatively, self-adhesive insulating paper or tape may be wrapped between and around the two core laminations when these form the leads. The unit may have an outer covering of paint or varnish or a sleeve.
