Abstract

618,431. Walls. WATES, Ltd., and BLAND, K. W. March 15, 1946, No. 8177. [Classes 20(iii), 20(iv) and 87(i)] Walls are constructed by placing rectangular storey - height concrete panels 10 of cavity form and recessed at two opposed edges in edge to edge relation so that a vertical enclosed cavity 11 of substantial cross-section is formed between adjacent panels, filling each cavity with concrete to provide a joint without bolts &c. and to form a structural load-supporting column, and arranging on each course of panels a stringer course of concrete units 14 having steel corbels or bolts 21 embedded therein to support the roof trusses &c., the stringer course providing a continuous band round the house. The horizontal joints may be improved by tongues 12, 15 on the panels or stringer units co-operating with grooves 13, 16, and the vertical and horizontal joints are reinforced by rods 17, 18. The recessed surfaces of the panels may be filled with light-weight concrete 19 ,and covered with plaster &c. 20, or may be given an insulating lining of glass wool or the like. The panels 10 and units 14 are preferably reinforced and of several standard widths, and may contain window, door or ventilator openings or wooden joints, and may form interior walls. Provision may be made to conduct to the exterior any water penetrating the panel joints.
