Abstract

617,813. Luggage carriers. MIDLAND GEAR CASE CO., Ltd., and SMITH, W. B. Oct. 9, 1946, No. 30090. [Class 136 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] A luggage carrier of the kind having a spring- loaded flap hinged to a mounting pivoted to the carrier to allow the hinged end to be raised or lowered has means for securing the mounting to the carrier in the adjusted position. As shown in Fig. 1, the flap 7 of the carrier 1 is hinged at the ends 7a to a cross-bar 6 to the ends of which arms 5 are connected. A torsion spring 8 passed round the bar 6 engages the arms 5 and an abutment rod 9. The arms 5 are pivoted to the carrier side-bars at 4, and each arm has a quadrant slot 10 with seatings 11 for adjustment of the mounting of the arms on the carrier. The side-bars 2 of the carrier are provided with a stud 13 which projects into a seating and is secured by a wing-nut, the boss of which fits into the seating.
