Abstract
616,123. Rim brakes. DURAND, M. P. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25799. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1944. [Classes 136 (i) and 136 (ii)] In a rim brake for bicycles and the like, the brake shoes are given successive displacements along parallel planes by the action of a parallel motion pivotally secured to two pivots 3 and 4 rigid with a stationary part 2 secured to the fork 1. The pivots 3 support straps 5 which pass to either side of sleeves 6 and are pivotally secured thereto by removable studs 7. Studs 8 pivotally connect the sleeves to the arms 9 of the control levers 10 which are pivoted at 4. Each lever 10 is pulled down by a spring 11. The sleeve encloses the tailpiece 13 of the shoe carrier which is secured by pin 15 with winged nuts 16. Rods 18 connect the control levers 10 to a cross-bar to which the operating cable 20 is attached. An inflated tyre can be removed readily by unhooking a spring 11, removing the corresponding stud 7 and rocking the sleeve 6 about the stud 8 as shown in Fig. 3. In a modification the central pull cable is replaced by a side pull cable.
