[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVIII] A valve, especially for domestic water supply, comprises a rotatable actuating spindle having a screwed part 16 engaging the body, and a plain part 17 passing through a stuffing-box 24 into the valve chamber 2 and having a universal connection 19 with the valve assembly 21, 27, a spring 23 being located between and having its ends directly engaging the stuffing-box and valve assembly for preventing rotation of the valve assembly and compressing the packing 25 by means of the stuffing-box 24. The cast body 6 is adapted to be soldered to the supply pipe 7, the end of which acts as a valve seat. In a modification, the screwed and plain parts of the actuating spindle are separate and secured together by a cross-pin, and the valve body is formed from metal tubing.
