Abstract
615,435. Cigarette-making machines. ELLIS, L. S. E. (Policansky, H.). Oct. 22, 1945. No. 27756. [Class 130] Filter plugs are inserted in a tobacco rope on its way to a continuous rod machine by severing the rope by a knife 1 reciprocating in slots 3, in a wheel 4, rotating at a higher speed than the rope and thus pushing forward the severed parts, and making spaces tor the insertion of filter plugs 36 pushed round a wheel 19 by pins 20. The composite rod is received and contacted by a paper web 39 moving at slower speed, the pins 20 being' retracted before reaching a guide 41. To avoid damage from foreign bodies the cutting strokes of the knives 1 are made by springs 11, Fig. 2, the knives 1 being retracted by engagement of rocker arms 9 with a stationary cam track 12. Lubricant is contained in a hollow fixed shaft 13. The pins 20 which fit snugly in holes in the wheel 19 are carried by blocks 21, Fig. 5, sliding in radial grooves and reciprocated by the action of a stationary cam 23 on rollers 24. An arcuate guide 33 directs the rope into a groove 5, Fig. 2 until the knives are withdrawn at Wand an arcuate chute 37 directs the composite web on to the paper web 39.
