Abstract

614,031. Stapling fibres. SCHNEIDER, W. H. July 1, 1946, No. 19618. [Classes 120(ii) and 120(iii)] Apparatus for converting textile filaments, particularly rayon &c. filaments, into a sliver, rove or yarn of staple fibres, comprises in combination with pairs of front and rear drawing rollers 2, 1 and cutting means 8 located therebetween, a roller 4 or cushion, preferably fluid-filled, having a continuous but flexible filament guiding surface and arranged .to deflect the filaments from a straight course whilst permitting a reduction of the deflection of individual filaments as their ends are gripped by the rollers 2, the cutting means 8, which may be a knife, endless band-saw or heated wire, being so arranged that it is bridged by tensioned filaments upon the reduction of their deflection. The band of filaments 3, which are preferably broken initially by clamps to give "staggered" ends, is controlled during stapling by an apron 5 passing over a guide 7 with which co-operates a light roller 9. Guide means 11 lead the sliver &c. to delivery rollers 12.
