Abstract
613,117. Pressure-reducing valves. POWER . JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and SIMONS, A. Oct. 4, 1945, No. 25914. [Class 135] A pressure-reducing valve for liquids, for use, for example, in the fuel system of a gasturbine engine, comprises a swivel chamber 1 having tangentially-directed inlet apertures 2 of adjustable effective area and an axial passage 7 communicating with an outlet 12, the arrangement being said to eliminate aeration of the liquid. The area of the apertures 2 is adjusted by a sleeve 3 variably loaded by springs 15, 13 under the control of a threaded adjusting member 8, whereby the high-pressure liquid acting on the end of the sleeve 3 may be balanced either by the spring 15, for a low range of pressures, or by the spring 13, acting through a slidable sleeve 32, for a higher range of pressures. The end of the sleeve 3 which coacts with the apertures 2 is so bevelled that, when the apertures are closed, high pressure liquid can move the sleeve by acting on the end thereof, to open the apertures.
