Abstract
613,009. Suction cleaners. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JACOBY, H. C. E. July 28, 1944, No. 14472. [Class 8 (i)] Automatic height adjustment of the nozzle 2 of a suction cleaner comprising a motor casing integral with the nozzle and mounted on a wheel assembly for relative rocking movement and a handle 19 directly connected thereto, is effected whilst the cleaner is in use by resiliently and/or gravitationally biassing the nozzle against the carpet pile; the latter affording the sole nozzle support apart from that given it by the integral casing. The wheel assembly comprises a pair of wheels 12 carried by casing lugs 13 and wheels 11 carried by arms 15 pivoted at 16 to the lugs 13. Springs 17 almost offset gravity bias of the nozzle 2, a sole plate 18 of which rides over the carpet. In a modification, the front and rear wheels are mounted on a carriage which is itself pivoted on lugs depending from the rear of the casing. Specification 564,459 is referred to.
