Abstract

547,889. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. (Hoover Co.). March 13, 1941, No. 3436. [Class 8 (i)] A suction cleaner is mounted on fixed front and rear wheels 14, 15, the front wheels having a wide tread to provide automatic nozzle height adjustment, and in addition auxiliary supports or wheels 16 behind the rear wheels which prevent overturning when the handle is swung backwards. The wheels &c. 16, may be mounted pivotally, pressed down by springs and moving between stops, or they may be mounted in fixed bearings so that they are normally out of contact with the carpet. The cleaner may comprise a transverse cylinder 2 containing motor and fan, with means for attaching a converter hose, the handle being secured to the cylinder.
