612,388. Indicating-apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 24, 1946, No. 15830. Convention date, May 25, 1945. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XX] In a direction indicating instrument, an auxiliary pointer is adjustably mounted on the shaft carrying the main pointer. The shaft 7 rotated by a directional gyro or a compass, carries a pointer 6 indicating compass heading with reference to a fixed dial 4, which may be dished so that its index markings are coplanar with the tip of the pointer 6. The hub 28 of the pointer 6 and a three-armed spring 27 are rigidly mounted in a groove 29 of the shaft 7. The spring 27 forces the hub 25 of a second, course-indicating pointer 23 against a shoulder 26 of the shaft so that the second pointer can rotate therewith. A clutching member 33 has fingers 34 for engagement with openings 35 in the hub 25 when the shaft 30 of the member 33 is pushed inwardly against the force of a return spring 36 by a control knob 37 so that pointer 23 can be set against a fixed index 22 by depressing and rotating the knob 37. The index 22 is stepped out from the dial so as to be coplanar with the tip of the pointer 23.
