Abstract
576,436. Centring work. BARBER, A. May 11, 1944, No. 9006. [Class 83 (iii)] A centre indicator for machine tools comprises a housing 2 forming the socket portion of a ball joint and having a centre element 1 for location in the centre mark in the work and a disc or similarly shaped member 4 to give visual indication of any oscillation of the member 1 and a stem 6 adapted to be mounted in the machine and having a ball 5 situated within the socket in the housing 2. If the work is not accurately centred, then rotation of either the stem 6 or the work will cause the point of the member 1 to move in a circle and thus oscillate the disc 4. The stem may be resiliently mounted in a carrier 9 for insertion in the tool holder of the machine. For greater accuracy, small movements of the disc 4 may be made visible by an indicator 14 having a needle control element 15 in contact with the disc.
