789,902. Indicating-apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 9, 1956 [Sept. 16, 1955], No. 26612/55. Class 106 (4). [Also in Group XXX] An angular position indicator comprises pointers 8, 10 separately rotated about a common axis by coaxially mounted selsyn motors 2, I at different angular velocities having a constant ratio to one another, the pointer 10 of the slower motor being U-shaped to embrace the other motor 2 and its rotation being limited to an angular range of less than 360 degrees. The limb 11 of the pointer 10 is transparent and carries an index mark co-operating with an inner arcuate course scale on a dial plate 4, while the indication of the pointer 8 against an outer circular fine scale can be read through the limb 11. The selsyns 1, 2 are connected electrically to transmitting selsyns driven through the rotatable shaft whose angular position is to be indicated. The fine selsyn may be connected directly to the shaft while the course selsyn may be connected to the shaft through reduction gearing or directly to some part rotating at a lower speed proportional thereto. The indicator may be used as a depth indicator for mine winders or other hoists.
