Abstract
583,785. Determining bearings. BROWN, S. G. April 28, 1939, No. 12746. [Class 97 (ii)] A gyro-compass or other direction indicator and a wireless direction-finder are arranged in co-operation to give on a single dial the true bearing of the wireless signal. The dial 1 movable over a fixed pointer is carried by a shaft 3 of planet gearing 4, 5 of a differential gear, of which the wheel 6 is driven through a worm from a motor 8 operated by the repeating system of the gyro-compass, while the wheel 7 is driven from a shaft 10 operated through a flexible shaft from the spindle of the wireless tuning knob. The dial may be reset by a spring-retracted spindle carrying a gear-wheel to actuate the shaft 9.
