Abstract

611,717. Lubricating devices for spinning and like spindles. ARRAGG, G. M. March 12, 1945, No. 6136. Convention date, Feb. 4, 1944. [Class 120(ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] An oiling device for a yarn-package carrying tube and whirl rotating on a dead spindle, as in a cap spinning machine, has an oil reservoir comprising an oil cup supported on the lifter rail and containing an oil pad, a top for the reservoir having a bottom portion extending inside the oil cup, and a whirl support positioned inside the reservoir top. The upper edge of the top is positioned closely adjacent the whirl. In one modification, a bottom portion 14 of a reservoir top D fits closely within the upturned flange of an oil cup C and outside an oil-pad P. Securely held in the top D is a whirl support B having oil passages and preferably formed with a recess 35 for a bearing washer F, also optional, which may be made of fibre and forms a supporting bearing for the whirl W and tube T. The whirl support B may be held in a channel 17 or a similar support in the top D or may be welded or shrunk on to the inside of the top. The lifter rail L may be recessed below the oil cup C to hold an absorbent pad for the removal of excess oil. To prevent rotation of the cup C a finger may be welded to it to bear against the lifter rail L.
