Abstract

496,043. Bearings. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd., and ANDERSON, J. K. April 20, 1937, No. 11225. [Class 12 (i)] In spindles for spinning-machines with spaced apart ball bearings w, w<1> with the driving pulley 5 therebetween, each ball bearing is mounted in a cup-like housing 6, 6a, with an upstanding inner wall 18a, 18, to form an annular oil well, each housing being formed out of the solid to ensure against oil leakage and having a dust cover 21a, 12. The spindle 2 also has a cover 15. Each housing is mounted in a rail 4, 4a, of a bracket 7 bolted to the rail 8 of the machine. The upper housing 6 is of smaller diameter than the lower one so that upon removal to the cap 15 and a nut 11 the spindle assembly can be removed bodily from the rails 4, 4a. The ball bearing retaining nuts 17, 23, upon rotation supply oil to the bearings by centrifugal force.
